The Senzo Meyiwa murder trial resumes in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria today, where the State is expected to continue its cross examination of defence witness Absalom Zungu.
Five men are on trial for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain.
Zungu was called by the defence to dispute earlier police claims that he had linked two of the accused, Muzi Sibiya and Bongani Ntanzi, to the killing.
He told the court he had never provided such information and accused investigators of attaching his name to a statement he did not make.
During questioning on Tuesday, state prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi attempted to establish whether Zungu had knowledge of the movements and addresses of the accused.
He focused on the town of Whistleton in Ermelo, where cellphone records place accused number one, Muzi Sibiya, between September and December 2019.
Accused number five, Fisokuhle Ntuli, had also provided an address in Ermelo.
Baloyi asked Zungu whether he knew if Ntuli lived in Whistleton.
Zungu replied that he did not want to involve himself in issues relating to other people.
He repeated that his testimony was intended to address the police statement attributed to him and not the personal details of the accused.
Baloyi then asked whether Zungu could comment on the fact that both accused one and accused five had links to Whistleton.
Zungu responded that he could not. He told the court that although he had spent time in Ermelo, this did not mean he could comment on the accused or their locations.
He apologised to the court and said he was not there to testify about those matters.
Zungu’s cross examination will continue today as the State seeks clarity on his interactions with investigators and his knowledge of the accused.
His evidence follows testimony from his son, state witness Constable Sizwe Zungu, who previously placed the accused together at a hostel on the day of the shooting.
