Tzaneen Crossing mall hijacking: Here’s what we know
According to reports, two unknown males approached a couple parked in their Chevrolet Sonic, claiming to be police officers and directing the male driver to sit in the back seat.
One suspect, armed with a firearm, informed the driver they were being taken to the police station.
The second suspect took the driver’s seat and drove along the R36 road, eventually stopping at a car wash in Bindzulani Cross, Nkowankowa.
During the drive, the suspects demanded the victim transfer money, but he refused and attempted to signal his wife to escape.
The situation escalated when the suspects drove to Mokgoloboto Village near a graveyard, where the victim noticed another vehicle following them.
In a desperate move, he grabbed the steering wheel, causing the car to lose control and come to a stop. He then instructed his wife to flee.
The suspects assaulted the couple, took their vehicle, and left them stranded.
They also stole a bag containing cash, the victim’s wife’s passport, his identity book, and two cellphones.
Police were alerted to the incident and have opened a case of robbery with a firearm and carjacking.
“Police are appealing to anyone with information that can assist with the arrest of the suspects to contact Sergeant Gift Machete on 083 542 0788, crime stop number 08600 10111, the nearest police station, or share information on MySAPSApp,” Limpopo police noted in a statement.
