David Polet charged with culpable homicide

The NPA confirmed that 36-year-old David Polet was formally charged with culpable homicide and driving under the influence of alcohol, during his first court appearance on Thursday.

His case is set to resume on 7 May 2025.

Mdlokolo, a 32-year-old dental surgeon from Durban, was walking with her sister, Anelisa Mdlokolo, on Buitengracht Street in Cape Town during the early hours of Saturday, 31 January 2025, when she was struck by a red Ferrari.

According to witnesses, the vehicle first hit another pedestrian before colliding with Mdlokolo. She was declared dead at the scene, while the other pedestrian, whose identity remains unknown, was injured.

Her sister, who survived the tragedy, recalled hearing the screeching of tyres moments before the impact.

“It hit someone behind us and then came straight for my sister,” she told reporters.

Polet was arrested at the scene after a CCID officer intervened and restrained him.

He was later granted bail after his initial court appearance.

Dr Ncumisa Mdlokolo’s death premonition

In a chilling twist, just days before her death, Mdlokolo posted a cryptic message on social media that many now see as a haunting premonition.

“I’m so exhausted. Feels like I’m going to pass away but I also want to read. Ndithini?”

The post has since gone viral, with social media users expressing shock at its eerie timing.

Mdlokolo was known for her work as a dental surgeon, activist, and filmmaker.

Tributes have poured in from friends, colleagues, and the public, mourning the loss of a young professional who had made an impact in multiple fields.

As the legal proceedings move forward, Polet faces serious charges, and the court will determine whether his alleged reckless actions will result in a conviction.
