What started as an online romance has now turned into one of the most bizarre viral stories of the year.
Onijah Robinson sets the internet ablaze
Onijah Robinson, a 33-year-old woman from Brooklyn, New York, has found herself at the centre of a media frenzy in Pakistan, where she has refused to leave the country after her planned marriage to a 19-year-old was blocked by his family.
According to reports, Robinson arrived in Pakistan in October 2024 to marry Nidal Ahmed Memon, a teenager she met online.
However, Memon’s family did not approve of the union and allegedly cut off contact with her. Instead of returning to the United States, Robinson camped outside his family home, demanding to see him and refusing deportation.
Her persistence, combined with outlandish press conferences and financial demands, has turned her into an unexpected internet sensation.
She has been seen addressing reporters, claiming she is Pakistani, and calling for cash payments from the government to stay in the country.
In one instance, she demanded $100,000—later dropping the amount to $20,000 in cash—to “rebuild Pakistan.”
Her erratic public appearances and statements have drawn both sympathy and amusement, with social media users dubbing her the “Queen of Pakistan.”
Here are the latest updates on the US woman in Pakistan
Robinson has not only refused to leave but has also turned her situation into a daily spectacle.
Videos circulating online show her flanked by security guards, engaging with crowds, and even signing low-budget brand deals with local businesses.
During one of her press conferences, she made a bizarre declaration: “I’m married, and we are moving to Dubai very soon. We’re going to have our baby in Dubai.”
However, Memon’s family has not acknowledged any marriage, and there is no record of a legal union.
More intriguing, a man claiming to be her son released a video saying that Robinson has mental health issues and that he has been trying to get her back to the US. His plea, however, seems to have had no effect on her resolve to remain in Pakistan.
Authorities have now stepped in, with Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori extending her expired visa and reportedly arranging a flight for her return.
Despite these efforts, it remains unclear if she intends to board the plane.
For now, Robinson continues to entertain, confuse, and intrigue those following her saga.
