A bus crash that occurred near the N3 De Hoek toll plaza in Heidelberg, Western Cape, claimed the lives of six passengers and injured at least 58 others, on Sunday.
What caused the Heidelberg bus crash?
As reported by eNCA, fire and rescue officials cordoned off the road where a passenger-carrying bus plunged off a bridge, leaving a trail of devastation.
Details around the cause of the Heidelberg bus crash are still sketchy at this time. However, from the tidbits of reports coming from the scene of the crash, early indications suggest the bus veered off the road and ran into a bridge pillar before plunging down an embankment.
Before the plummet, it’s understood that a number of passengers found an opportunity to escape, while others were trapped inside.
The identities of the victims are still unknown at this time.
When the reports first surfaced, six victims were confirmed dead from the bus crash. However, shortly thereafter the death toll was increased to 10.

As things stand, there may be a high likelihood of more deaths. At the time this article was published, at least 58 victims of the Heidelberg bus crash were being treated for critical injuries.
