Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey, 32, has been officially charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
Thomas Partey charged with five counts of rape
According to a statement released by the Metropolitan Police, the charges relate to incidents that allegedly occurred between 2021 and 2022. The accusations involve three different women.
The charges are laid out as follows: two counts of rape are linked to one woman, three counts of rape to a second woman, and one count of sexual assault to a third woman.
Partey has denied all allegations through his lawyer, who stated that the footballer “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name.”
“He has fully cooperated with the police and CPS throughout their three-year investigation. Given that there are now ongoing legal proceedings, my client is unable to comment further,” Jenny Wiltshire his legal representative added.
According to reports, the Metropolitan Police began their investigation in February 2022 after receiving an initial report of rape. Since then, the case has grown to include additional allegations from two other women.
“Our priority remains providing support to the women who have come forward. We would ask anyone who has been impacted by this case, or anyone who has information, to speak with our team,” Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation said.
Partey is expected to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 5 August 2025.
Partey had been with Arsenal since 2020, joining from Atlético Madrid. He made over 100 appearances for the North London club and played a role in the team’s recent successes.
His contract with Arsenal officially ended on Monday, concluding his four-year stint with the club. Despite controversy surrounding the allegations, Arsenal fielded him in matches during the most recent season before his release.
Partey’s former partner, Gifty Boakye, addressed previous rumours involving the player. In an interview with Ghanaweb in 2022, she dismissed claims about inappropriate behaviour during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and affirmed her belief in his innocence amid recent accusations.
“Thomas and I’s relationship was very public and against my wishes,” she said.
“It was a rumour… but those were rumours we put to end.”
With court proceedings set to begin in early August, Thomas Partey’s legal team will begin the process of defending him against the serious charges.
The legal outcome could have far-reaching consequences for the former Ghana international’s personal and professional life.
