American boxer Terence Crawford pulled off one of the biggest wins of his career on Saturday night (Sunday morning SAST) when he beat Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.
Terence Crawford makes history
Crawford won by unanimous decision, which means all three judges agreed he was the winner.
The scores were 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113.
This victory makes him the first male boxer in history to become the undisputed champion — the official number one — in three different weight classes under the four-belt era.
He now holds all the major belts in the super middleweight division (168 pounds or about 76 kilograms).
How the fight unfolded
Many people thought Crawford, who moved up in weight from 154 pounds, would struggle against Alvarez, who is naturally bigger.
Instead, Crawford showed smart movement, quick jabs, and well-timed combinations that kept Alvarez frustrated.
From the very first round, Crawford avoided Alvarez’s powerful punches by staying mobile. Alvarez tried to corner him, but each time Crawford slipped away and countered with sharp shots.
By the end, Crawford had landed 115 punches to Alvarez’s 99, including a huge advantage in jabs — 45 compared to Alvarez’s 16. Alvarez did have more power punches (83 to 70), but it wasn’t enough to take control of the fight.
Crawford’s powerful message
After the fight, Crawford didn’t give a long speech.
Instead, he posted a short but emotional message on social media platform X (formerly Twitter):
“For all the nobodies.”
This statement has been widely discussed, with many fans saying he meant the win was dedicated to people who are often overlooked, underestimated, or counted out — much like he had been before the fight.
The fight drew a massive crowd of 70,482 fans, most of them cheering for Alvarez. Millions more around the world streamed the bout live on Netflix. Despite being in front of a crowd that mostly supported his opponent, Crawford stayed calm and focused.
He finished strong in the final rounds, landing big combinations that rocked Alvarez and sealed the decision in his favour.
Crawford’s record now stands at 42 wins, 0 losses, and 31 knockouts. His achievement cements him as one of the greatest fighters of his generation.
Alvarez, who had been undefeated in the super middleweight division (10-0), now has a record of 63 wins, 3 losses, and 2 draws.
It’s not yet clear who Crawford will face next, but after this historic win, the boxing world is already calling him one of the sport’s all-time greats.
