Eskom continues to battle with stabilising the power grid, and on Sunday, the embattled state-owned utility confirmed Stage 4 loadshedding will be implemented rotationally until Thursday, 27 October 2022.

In a statement, the national electricity supplier confirmed that emergency generation reserves, both diesel and pump storage dam levels, are almost depleted.
This setback has exacerbated power generation issues that Eskom was already struggling to contain in the first place. Added to this, Eskom revealed, three power stations lost a generating unit each this weekend.
“During the weekend the breakdown of a generating unit each at Duvha, Kriel and Medusa power stations, as well as the delayed returns of a generating unit each at Camden, Kusile, Komati and Kendal power stations have exacerbated current generation capacity shortages, forcing the escalation of loadshedding,” the power utility explained.
Despite several generating units at five power stations (Grootvlei, Hendrina, Majuba, Matla and Tutuka) returning to service, Eskom still grapples with underperforming infrastructure that does not meet the country’s electricity demand.
“We currently have 6 004MW on planned maintenance, while another 14 961MW of capacity is unavailable due to breakdowns,” the utility added.
As a result, Eskom has published a loadshedding schedule that will remain in place until Thursday, 27 October 2022.
For the next five days, rotational power cuts will be implemented as follows:
- Stage 4 loadshedding: 12:00 on Sunday, 23 October 2022 until 05:00 on Monday, 24 October 2022
- Stage 3 loadshedding: 05:00 until 16:00 on Monday, 24 October 2022
- Stage 4 loadshedding: 16:00 on Monday, 24 October 2022 until 05:00 on Tuesday, 25 October 2022
- Stage 3 loadshedding: 05:00 until 16:00 on Tuesday, 25 October 2022
- Stage 4 loadshedding: 16:00 on Tuesday, 25 October 2022 until 05:00 on Wednesday, 26 October 2022
- Stage 3 loadshedding: 05:00 until 16:00 on Wednesday, 26 October 2022
- Stage 4 loadshedding: 16:00 on Wednesday, 26 October 2022 until 05:00 on Thursday, 27 October 2022
- Stage 3 loadshedding: 05:00 on Thursday, 27 October 2022 until 05:00 on Friday, 28 October 2022
- Stage 2 loadshedding: 05:00 until 00:00 on Friday, 28 October 2022
