Rampant loadshedding has affected water supply in several Joburg suburbs this week.
Joburg Water clears the air around low-pressure supply issues
On Sunday, 18 September 2022, the national electricity supplier sent the country into a whirlwind of frustration when it announced Stage 6 loadshedding, owing to the failure of several key power generating units.
While Eskom managed to lower rotational power outages to Stage 5 on Monday, the rampant blackouts have had an adverse impact on Joburg’s water infrastructure.
In a statement, Joburg Water warned of continued low-pressure supply in several suburbs, and this, the department noted, is due to prolonged outages.
Spokesperson Puleng Mopeli explained that a number of pump stations which supply water to the communities listed below have been isolated for prolonged periods since Monday afternoon.
“Customers in these tower zones will experience low pressure/no water during the duration of the loadshedding period. Johannesburg Water is monitoring affected infrastructure and will ensure that water supply is restored as soon as possible to customers,” the statement read.
