Tateona Williams, the Detroit mother whose two children froze to death in a van earlier this month, has sparked outrage after being seen partying on Facebook Live.
Tateona Williams sparks outrage after appearing in Facebook Live party
The video, which surfaced Tuesday night, shows Williams twerking and dancing to music by GloRilla and Bossman Dlow at what appeared to be a social gathering.
The footage has triggered a strong reaction online, with many questioning her actions so soon after the tragic loss of her children.
Commenters on social media called the video insensitive and disturbing, given the circumstances surrounding her children’s deaths.
What happened to her children?
Earlier in February, Williams’ two children—ages two and nine—were found dead from hypothermia in the van where the family had been living for at least three months.
According to reports, the tragic discovery was made after Williams woke up and found them unresponsive in the vehicle, which was parked on the ninth floor of the Hollywood Casino at Greektown parking garage.
Williams had been living out of the van with her four children, struggling to find stable housing.
Officials revealed that she had reached out to Detroit’s homeless response team in November 2024, desperately seeking shelter.
However, no action was taken, and she was still homeless when temperatures dropped below freezing on Monday—the night her children perished.
Authorities confirmed that the van had run out of fuel, leaving the family without heat as the temperature plummeted.
Williams managed to survive along with her two other children, who are now staying with relatives. She has since been placed in a homeless shelter.
In an emotional interview following the tragedy, Williams expressed frustration over the lack of help she received, stating:
“I asked everybody for help. I called out of state, I called cities I didn’t know, I called cities people asked me to call. Everybody now wants to help after I lost two kids?”
Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan acknowledged that Williams had reached out for assistance, but no follow-up action was taken.
Williams has not publicly addressed the video, and it remains unclear when and where it was filmed.
