Videos about the rapture have spread quickly across social media platforms in recent days.
Social media abuzz with claims about the rapture
Evangelical Christians are sharing warnings and advice, with some believing the end-times prophecy could happen on 23 or 24 September 2025.
One account with more than 848,000 likes posted a clip of a woman crying as she begged her best friend to “repent” so that she would not be “left behind.”

In her testimony, she described a dream in which she shouted warnings that “Jesus is coming” but said nobody listened.
Another popular account featured two men explaining what people should expect if the rapture occurs.
They said that believers who placed their faith in Jesus would be taken to heaven, while non-believers would remain on earth during what they called a “troublesome period that’s worse than any period since mankind was created.”
@christian.clippzz Could the rapture be closer than we think? Mr. Joshua points to Sept 23–24 as a sign. Turn to Jesus now and find hope. #Rapture #EndTimes #Gospel #Repentance #FYP ♬ original sound – claim.benifit
These warnings have drawn millions of views, with users reposting them alongside their own reactions, prayers, or fears.
What is the rapture and is it actually happening this week?
The rapture is a belief held by some Christian groups. It is the idea that, at the end of the world, Jesus will suddenly take believers to heaven while everyone else is left on earth to face difficult times.
This belief is based on certain interpretations of the Bible, though not all Christian denominations accept it.
The most recent wave of speculation comes from South African pastor Joshua Mhlakela, who posted a YouTube video three months ago predicting that the rapture could occur on 23 or 24 September 2025.
The video had more than 560,000 views by Mondy, 22 September 2025.
However, predictions of the rapture are not new.
Since the 1800s, different religious leaders and groups have claimed that the end times were near.
None of those predictions have been proven correct. Books and movies about the rapture, such as The Late Great Planet Earth by Hal Lindsey, have kept the concept alive in popular culture.
