A major internet disruption on Thursday, 19 June 2025, left more than 45,000 users across the United States without broadband services, causing widespread frustration.

CenturyLink yet to address US internet outages

The outage, which lasted over two and a half hours, hit several large internet service providers (ISPs), including CenturyLink, Quantum Fibre, and Brightspeed.

The most serious impact was reported in Colorado, where thousands of Quantum Fibre users experienced a sudden loss of connectivity.

Other regions also experienced service issues, but outage tracking platforms such as Down Detector recorded the highest concentration of complaints from CenturyLink customers, with over 35,000 affected nationwide.

Despite the scale of the disruption, CenturyLink, the parent company of Quantum Fibre, has not issued a formal public statement addressing the cause or timeline of the outage.

Instead, CenturyLink’s customer service team sent generic responses to affected users on social media.

These messages included phrases such as:

“Sorry you’re having trouble with our service. We’re currently looking into multiple inquiries about a possible disruption. Please DM your full service address and the account owner’s name—we’ll notify you via text if an outage is confirmed.”

Many customers have criticised this approach, saying it failed to provide clear information or reassurance. Users took to platforms like X and Facebook to express frustration, with some calling the lack of communication “unacceptable” given the outage’s nationwide reach.

Internet outages like this have serious consequences. In a world where businesses, schools, hospitals, and emergency services rely on constant internet access, losing connectivity for hours can interrupt meetings, delay transactions, and even risk lives.

One affected user in Denver said:

“I work remotely, and my entire day was thrown off. Not a single clear update from CenturyLink the whole time.”

Though internet services were mostly restored by the afternoon of Thursday, 19 June 2025, the absence of a detailed explanation or apology from CenturyLink remains a point of contention.

As of Friday, no further comment has been made by the company.
