Police have confirmed that businessman Brown Mogotsi has been located and is currently providing a statement to investigators regarding the alleged assassination attempt on his life in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg.

Sources close to the investigation told EWN that Mogotsi arrived for questioning on Wednesday morning at his legal team’s offices in Johannesburg.

He is reportedly cooperating with police in the presence of his attorneys while investigators execute a search and seizure warrant that was issued in mid-October.

Police have confirmed that they have seized several digital devices from Mogotsi as part of an ongoing probe into fraud, corruption, and defeating the ends of justice.

These devices are expected to provide critical evidence in multiple ongoing investigations, including the alleged hit attempt on the controversial businessman.

“The SAPS has successfully executed the search and seizure warrant that was issued for 16 October 2025 on Mr Brown Mogotsi,” police said in a brief statement.

“The team investigating the fraud, corruption and defeating the ends of justice case has also seized certain devices from him.”

The alleged assassination attempt occurred late on Monday, 3 November 2025. at around 22:00 SAST, when Mogotsi’s red Chevrolet Aveo came under fire from gunmen reportedly driving a white bakkie in Vosloorus.

According to earlier reports, at least 11 shell casings were found at the scene, with multiple bullets striking the car’s front seats .

Miraculously, Mogotsi escaped unharmed.

The businessman is a central figure in the Madlanga Commission and the Ad Hoc Parliamentary Committee investigating corruption and political interference in the South African Police Service (SAPS).

In recent weeks, Mogotsi’s name has surfaced repeatedly in testimony linking him to senior police officials and alleged criminal networks.

The commission has described him as “an important witness” capable of shedding light on the flow of money between top officers and organised crime.

Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, the SAPS national spokesperson, confirmed that both the fraud and attempted murder investigation teams are now working jointly on the case.

“Investigators have met with Mr Mogotsi and his lawyers. No further comment will be provided at this stage,” she said.
