On Election Day, the only time in a period of four years where ordinary South Africans have an influence in electing the leadership of their choosing, the sentiment around social media was clear.

Author of The New Apartheid Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh reminded South Africans of the ruling party’s failed 27-year promise of greener pastures.

Sportscaster Robert Marawa quoted former president Thabo Mbeki’s sentiments when he cast his ballot on Election Day, where he categorically stated that “we need honest people not thieves [in government].”
