South African Airways (SAA) has announced the relaunch of its daily direct flight service between Johannesburg and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The flights will resume on Monday, 20 January 2025.

Direct flights to Tanzania now available via SAA

According to SAA’s interim CEO, Professor John Lamola, this development aims to strengthen the connection between South Africa and Tanzania, both economically and culturally.

Dar es Salaam, the largest city in East Africa, is a critical hub for trade, tourism, and logistics, making it a key destination for SAA’s regional network.

The carrier stated that this route would facilitate trade and investment between the two countries.

South Africa is a significant source of foreign direct investment in Tanzania, and the two nations have established trade links in sectors such as agriculture, precious metals, and machinery.

SAA has been expanding its regional operations, adding more flights to cities like Harare, Lusaka, Lagos, and Accra in recent months.

The airline also introduced flights to Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo, emphasising its commitment to providing connectivity across Africa.

SAA Tanzania daily flight schedule

The new flight schedule includes daily departures from Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport at 22:00 SAST, arriving in Dar es Salaam at 02:30 (EAT).

Return flights from Dar es Salaam will depart at 05:10 (EAT) and arrive in Johannesburg at 07:55 (SAST).

This schedule is designed to accommodate both point-to-point passengers and those connecting to other destinations.

SAA emphasised that the timing of the flights has been engineered for optimal convenience for travelers.

Dar es Salaam serves as a gateway to some of East Africa’s most popular tourist destinations, further highlighting the strategic importance of this route for boosting regional tourism.

SAA has framed this relaunch as a step toward consolidating its position within Africa’s aviation market.

As part of its regional expansion, the airline has adjusted its offerings to better serve travellers and promote economic growth between key African cities.
