When Swisher Post Presents: Road to Travis was first conceptualised, the goal was simple — to capture South Africa through a family’s eyes while chasing one of the biggest musical moments of the year: Travis Scott’s Circus Maximus World Tour.
The five-day cross-country vlog follows Swisher Post Founder and Editor, Andile Sicetsha and his family on a journey from Cape Town to Johannesburg.
The group set out by car to attend Travis Scott’s sold-out Johannesburg concert, thanks to Big Concerts, and turned the long drive into an exploration of South Africa’s towns, landscapes and unexpected challenges along the way.
A five-day trip turned adventure
The 1,400-kilometre drive from Cape Town to Johannesburg would normally take about 14 hours.
For Andile and his family, it became a five-day adventure that included stops in Robertson, Beaufort West, Colesberg and Bloemfontein.
Along the way, they documented roadside moments, quiet mornings and the kind of family conversations that make road trips memorable.
The journey wasn’t without setbacks. Just outside Laingsburg, their car lost power, leaving them stranded for nearly five hours. “It was stressful,” Andile recalled in the vlog, “but we were thankful it happened when we could still pull over safely.”
The breakdown became a reminder of how unpredictable South African road travel can be — and how kindness from strangers, like the mechanics from CWG Auto in Beaufort West, can turn a crisis into an act of goodwill.
Discovering South Africa one stop at a time
After repairs, the family made their way to Colesberg for a much-needed rest, then stopped in Bloemfontein to unwind before the final leg to Johannesburg.
There, they visited Gold Reef City Theme Park, where the children experienced their first South African theme park rides. “It was definitely a ten out of ten,” Andile said, praising the staff’s friendliness and the park’s family atmosphere.
Throughout the vlog, the viewer sees the diversity of South Africa’s scenery — mountain passes, flat plains, and city skylines — stitched together with humour, exhaustion and genuine appreciation for the country’s beauty.
The Travis Scott experience
The culmination of the trip was the Circus Maximus World Tour concert at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.
Travis Scott’s performance began later than scheduled due to rain, but once he took the stage, the energy was electric.
For Andile, it was more than a concert. “It was a bucket-list experience,” he said, describing the show as “an out-of-body moment” after a long, exhausting trip.
The vlog closes on a reflective note as the family begins their return to Cape Town. The adventure left them with a new appreciation for travel, patience and the unpredictability of the open road.
