FlexStrike, the first fight stick controller made by Sony Interactive Entertainment, has officially been unveiled.

FlexStrike: Sony’s new gaming controller for fighting game fans

This announcement comes just days before the major Evolution Championship Series (Evo) fighting game tournament in Las Vegas, where it will be showcased to fans for the first time.

According to PlayStation, FlexStrike is designed for use on both PlayStation 5 (PS5) and PC. It can connect through a wire or wirelessly using a special technology called PlayStation Link, which reduces the delay between button presses and actions on screen.

What is a fight stick, and why Is FlexStrike different?

A fight stick is a special type of controller used mostly for fighting games like Tekken or Street Fighter.

It mimics the setup of old arcade machines, with a joystick and large buttons. Players say these controllers give them more control and faster reactions during gameplay.

FlexStrike includes several features aimed at improving both comfort and performance.

It uses mechanical switch buttons, which means the buttons are more responsive and last longer. It also comes with parts called “restrictor gates” that can be swapped without using tools.

These gates change how the joystick moves, making it easier to perform special moves in different games.

Built for travel and competition

The FlexStrike has built-in storage to hold all its parts and accessories, including the USB adapter needed for wireless play.

It also includes a sling carry case, making it easy to bring to tournaments or friends’ homes.

The built-in rechargeable battery lets players use it wirelessly for long sessions.

Players can also connect a wireless headset or earbuds at the same time using the same USB adapter, so they can hear game sounds clearly and chat with teammates during online matches.

Sony says the FlexStrike has a strong and comfortable design. It includes a non-slip base, a custom joystick, and controls similar to the regular PS5 controller. It even has a touchpad and a special lock button to prevent mistakes during a match.

Gamers can also switch between different control modes and adjust how the joystick works. If they want, they can keep a regular DualSense controller connected at the same time to use it for menus or other functions.

While fans will be able to see FlexStrike at Evo 2025 from 1 to 3 August, it will only be on display for now.

The controller is expected to go on sale in 2026. More details about the final release date and pricing are likely to follow closer to launch.
