The new ‘Astro Bot’ DualSense wireless controller for the PS5 has been crafted with the distinctive design and features fans have come to expect.
According to Nicolas Doucet, Team Asobi Studio Head, the controller features Astro’s signature blue accents on the handles and buttons, with carved-in, sci-fi lines and the playful eyes on the touchpad, making it a true work of art.
Doucet highlighted the controller’s immersive capabilities, stating:
“You can feel the surfaces that Astro runs and slides on, from grass, sand, metal to more squishy textures or water. We have increased the number of textures you can feel through the controller.”
The controller integrates advanced haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, enhancing the gaming experience with dynamic sensations.
For example, when using Barkster, the bulldog Jetpack, players can feel the thruster rattling against their fingers in sync with the animation.
The controller also brings new dimensions to gameplay with the Dual Speeder, a gadget that allows Astro to fly to various planets.
Doucet emphasised that the Dual Speeder makes full use of motion control, adaptive triggers, and haptic feedback, adding to the immersive experience.
