How to play ‘Donkey Kong Bonanza’
In this adventure, players team up with Donkey Kong and a new character named Pauline to recover stolen golden bananas and uncover ancient secrets beneath Ingot Isle.
The game starts when Donkey Kong is pulled underground through a mysterious vortex following a theft by Void Company, a group of underground troublemakers.
Deep in the subterranean world, he meets Pauline, a young girl with a strong singing voice. Together, they begin a quest to reach the Planet Core — a legendary place said to grant your greatest wish.
Gameplay focuses on smashing and exploring. Donkey Kong can break walls, punch through terrain, and use his strength to clear paths.
The underground world is full of hidden areas, and each level introduces new environments such as jungles, canyons, and frozen zones.
Players collect “Banandium Gems” throughout the game. These are golden gems used to upgrade Donkey Kong’s skills — like increasing his strength, adding new attacks, or boosting his health.
The more you explore and break things, the more gems you can find.
One of the key features in the game is the “Bananza” transformations. Using Pauline’s singing, Donkey Kong can temporarily turn into powerful animal forms:
- Kong Bananza: Increases strength to smash tougher materials.
- Zebra Bananza: Allows fast movement over water and crumbling paths.
- Ostrich Bananza: Lets you fly and drop Egg Bombs from the sky.
You can also play the game in co-op mode by sharing a Joy-Con 2 controller. A second player can join as Pauline to help fight enemies and discover hidden paths.
This co-op feature works both locally and online using GameShare, even if only one player owns the game.
To help new players, there’s an Assist Mode. It reduces damage, gives hints, and helps guide you through objectives. You can turn it on or off at any time.
The game includes DK Artist — a creative mode where players use mouse controls to carve, paint, and sculpt objects. Amiibo functionality is supported too. Scanning the Donkey Kong & Pauline amiibo unlocks exclusive outfits like the Diva Dress for Pauline.
