Vodacom confirmed the fire that broke out at its Century City headquarters will not affect network services.

Firefighters from the City of Cape Town battled a raging fire that erupted at the Vodacom Western Cape headquarters in Century City on Sunday.

The incident, which was reported at 11:00, initially involved solar panels on the roof of the building catching fire, according to Jermaine Carelse, spokesperson for Fire and Rescue.

As the first crew arrived at the scene, additional resources and two hydraulic platforms were swiftly dispatched.

Firefighters faced the challenging task of extinguishing the flames while also being cautious of falling debris inside the building. Carelse emphasised that the situation was dynamic, but no injuries have been reported thus far, per News24.

The sight of the building ablaze quickly spread across social media, with numerous images and videos capturing the intensity of the fire.

Passers-by and motorists shared footage of towering flames engulfing the Vodacom offices as they passed by.

The location of the headquarters, just a few meters away from the popular Canal Walk shopping mall, heightened concerns over the potential impact on nearby structures.

Were Cape Town Vodacom services affected by the fire?

Byron Kennedy, spokesperson for Vodacom, confirmed that the fire at their regional headquarters appears to be “under control.”

While the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, Kennedy assured that the company will conduct a thorough investigation and take appropriate action.

Fortunately, since it was a Sunday, there were not many individuals inside the building at the time. Nonetheless, the premises were evacuated as a precautionary measure, and there have been no reported injuries as of now.
