Etienne du Preez and Flip Minnaar, two leaders of the Heidelberg Community Policing Forum (CPF), were killed in a suspected planned hit on Wednesday afternoon.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Ueckermannstraat at around 14:30.

After the shooting, Preez was flown by air ambulance to Alberton for urgent medical treatment, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.

Both men were well-known and respected members of the community, actively involved in various organisations.

Flip Minnaar, the chairman of the Heidelberg CPF, and Etienne du Preez, a CPF member and AfriForum Heidelberg member, were also engaged with Heidelberg Hope, a local community initiative. 

What authorities know about the shooter

Authorities have launched an urgent investigation into the shooting, which is being treated as a planned hit.

Initial reports indicate that a motorcyclist is being sought in connection with the crime.

Crime Stop Security Services released a description of the suspect to the public, urging anyone with information to come forward. 

The suspect is described as a white male wearing black clothes and a white helmet with red and green stripes, riding a silver Triumph Daytona motorcycle.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, but the targeted nature of the attack suggests it may have been premeditated.

The search for the suspect is ongoing, with police focusing on identifying and apprehending the individual responsible for the attack.

Authorities are exploring all possible leads and are calling for community cooperation to help solve the case.
