The murder-accused Roodepoort mother, Tiffany Meek, will return to court on Thursday as the State finalises the indictment that will move her case to the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg.

Meek, 31, faces charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice following the death of her 11-year-old son, Jayden-Lee, whose body was found inside their Fleurhof complex earlier this year.

Thursday’s appearance before the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court is expected to be largely procedural, with the hearing earmarked to pave the way for a pre-trial sitting at the High Court on 20 November 2025.

During an appearance on Wednesday, per IOL, Meek’s legal representative, Noven Naidoo, informed the court that she would now rely on Legal Aid South Africa for her defence, citing financial hardship due to her ongoing incarceration.

“I have been instructed by the accused that she can no longer afford my services and wishes to apply for Legal Aid in the matter,” Naidoo told the court .

The court also heard that Meek had been attacked in prison and was receiving medical attention for a stab wound.

Naidoo said the assault occurred inside the correctional facility where she is being held, adding that “there’s an ongoing investigation and the perpetrator was apprehended.”

The accused has been behind bars since July 2025, when her bail application was denied.

The court, at the time, described Meek’s testimony as “inconsistent and dishonest,” pointing to at least 20 findings that contradicted her version of events.

The case has drawn widespread attention since Jayden-Lee’s death shocked the Fleurhof community. The boy was reported missing after being dropped off by his scholar transport driver and seen entering their residential complex.

His bruised body was discovered the following day just metres from their home.

Police investigators later revealed that blood-stained clothing and other evidence recovered from the apartment suggested Jayden-Lee had returned home on the day he disappeared, contradicting Meek’s initial claim that her son never made it back.

The State has since built a case alleging that Meek murdered her son before attempting to conceal the crime.

The Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg will now handle all future proceedings in the case. The pre-trial hearing is expected to confirm the readiness of both parties before a formal trial date is set.
