M19 bridge crash kills family

In a tragic incident last night, a male and female, believed to be family members, were killed when their vehicle burst into flames following a collision on the M19 near Makro.

ALS Paramedics reported that they arrived at the scene just after 22:30 to find the vehicle engulfed in flames.

Paramedics and bystanders desperately tried to douse the fire, but the inferno was too strong.

Once the eThekwini Fire Department extinguished the blaze, it was confirmed that both occupants had died.

ALS Paramedics spokesperson described the scene as spine-chilling, emphasising the intensity of the fire and the tragic loss of life.

The second driver involved in the collision sustained no injuries.

Paramedics also attended to two other collisions along the same stretch of road, treating and transporting two additional patients to the hospital.

Was speed racing the cause of the collision?

Speculation about the cause of the crash points towards speed racing, based on eyewitness accounts and information provided by medics at the scene.

Reports indicate that cars were driving at excessive speeds at the time of the collisions.

While this suggests speed racing as a likely factor, an official statement from the police has yet to surface, and the investigation is ongoing.
