As winter’s grip loosens slightly following a turbulent cold front, South Africans can expect a calm and largely clear day on Sunday, 29 June 2025.
Weather warnings issued for Sunday, 29 June 2025
The weather on Sunday brings no severe warnings or advisories, offering a welcome pause after a week of intense meteorological activity.
According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), conditions will remain fine over most parts of the country, allowing a moment of respite and seasonal normalcy.
With no impact-based warnings in place, residents across the provinces can anticipate a tranquil day.
The Western Cape sees a lingering trace of moisture, particularly over Cape Town where light rain in the morning gives way to cloudy skies.
Temperatures there are expected to range between 13°C and 18°C. George and Gqeberha will remain overcast with isolated showers in the east, including East London by the evening.
Meanwhile, the interior—spanning cities such as Bloemfontein, Kimberley, and Mahikeng—will remain dry and cold, with minimum temperatures plunging below freezing in places like Vereeniging (-4°C), Vryburg (-4°C), and Bloemfontein (-2°C).
Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal are forecast to enjoy crisp but stable winter days. Johannesburg and Pretoria will remain fine with highs of 15°C and 17°C respectively, while Durban, enjoying a balmy 23°C maximum, will experience moderate to fresh westerly winds and a very high UV index, a reminder that sun exposure risks persist even in winter.
- No impact-based weather warnings have been issued.
- No fire danger warnings are in place.
- No advisories have been released by SAWS.
Seasonally, South Africa remains in a transitional phase. According to the June-to-October Seasonal Climate Watch, the country is experiencing mostly above-normal minimum and maximum temperatures across much of its interior.
However, the southern coastal regions—like those currently showing rain activity—are seeing below-normal temperature trends and a mid-winter uptick in rainfall, particularly in the southwest and along the eastern coast
While Sunday’s weather may appear uneventful on paper, the backdrop of shifting seasonal dynamics is quietly shaping the months ahead.
For now, the absence of weather hazards provides an ideal setting for travel, farming continuity, or simply enjoying a crisp winter day under South Africa’s open skies.
