South Africa weather warnings today 18 august 2025

The weather across South Africa on Monday, 18 August 2025, will be mostly partly cloudy with cool to mild daytime temperatures in the interior and warmer conditions in the north-western regions.

While no impact-based warnings have been issued, fire danger remains a significant concern in certain provinces. Inland cities such as Pretoria and Johannesburg will experience mild weather under partly cloudy skies, while coastal regions including Cape Town, Durban, and Gqeberha will see a mix of morning fog, sunshine, and fresh winds.

Weather warnings issued for Monday, 18 August 2025

Extremely high fire danger conditions have been forecast for the Dr Beyers Naudé Local Municipality (Eastern Cape) and the Kareeberg Local Municipality (Northern Cape). This means that vegetation and dry grass could ignite easily, and any uncontrolled fire may spread rapidly.

Residents are advised to avoid open flames, agricultural burns, and the careless disposal of cigarettes. Towns in the affected regions include Graaff-Reinet in the Eastern Cape and Carnarvon in the Northern Cape.

Regional highlights:

  • Gauteng – Partly cloudy, with Pretoria reaching 22°C and Johannesburg 21°C.
  • Limpopo & Mpumalanga – Partly cloudy, Mbombela may see morning drizzle (23°C), Polokwane reaching 22°C.
  • North West & Free State – Fine to partly cloudy and windy, with Mahikeng at 24°C, Bloemfontein at 23°C.
  • Northern Cape – Mostly fine to partly cloudy and windy, Kimberley 25°C, Upington warm at 28°C.
  • Western Cape – Cape Town partly cloudy with morning fog, high of 20°C. George fine at 21°C.
  • Eastern Cape – Gqeberha fine with a high of 24°C, East London partly cloudy at 25°C.
  • KwaZulu-Natal – Durban partly cloudy, becoming windy and warm at 25°C. Pietermaritzburg will be partly cloudy, reaching 27°C. Richards Bay warm at 26°C.

Seasonal outlook context

According to the South African Weather Service’s seasonal climate outlook, above-normal temperatures are expected for much of the country as winter transitions into spring.

This trend, coupled with reduced rainfall over the west, supports the continuation of fire danger risks in the Northern and Eastern Cape.

Meanwhile, KwaZulu-Natal and the Lowveld may experience warmer, humid conditions that could drive thunderstorms later in the season.
