The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued the following weather warnings and advisories for Thursday, 5 December 2024:

  • Yellow Level 2 Warning:
    • Severe thunderstorms expected over the southern parts of KwaZulu-Natal, the eastern and central interior of the Eastern Cape, and the extreme southern escarpment of Mpumalanga. Risks include localised damage to infrastructure, property, vehicles, injuries, and impacts on livestock due to hail, damaging winds, heavy downpours, and excessive lightning.
  • Yellow Level 4 Warning:
    • Severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, hail, excessive lightning, and heavy downpours may lead to flooding in the north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
  • Fire Danger Warnings:
    • Extremely high fire danger conditions expected in:
      • North West.
      • Eastern Northern Cape.
      • Western Free State.
      • Northern and western interior of the Eastern Cape.
      • Northern Limpopo.
      • Lowveld areas of Mpumalanga.
      • Extreme north-eastern Western Cape.
  • Advisories:
    • A heat wave with persistently high temperatures is expected across Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal until at least Friday, 6 December 2024.
    • Extremely hot and uncomfortable conditions in Limpopo and Mpumalanga’s Lowveld, the Western Bushveld, and the Limpopo Valley until Saturday, 7 December 2024.
