The South Africa weather forecast for Tuesday predicts severe thunderstorms across multiple provinces, alongside extreme fire danger conditions and a persistent heatwave.

Severe thunderstorms are warned for southern KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, eastern North West, and Free State, and the Highveld of Mpumalanga.

Fire danger warnings cover Beaufort West and Cederberg in the Western Cape, parts of Free State, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape, North West, and Northern Cape.

Heatwave conditions will also likely persist in Joe Gqabi and Matatiele in the Eastern Cape, Limpopo, Free State, North-West, Northern Cape, Mpumalanga, and Gauteng.

Moreover, according to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), extremely uncomfortable conditions are expected in the Western Cape and Namakwa District. Extremely hot conditions are predicted for Khai-Ma in the Northern Cape and Cederberg and Bergrivier in the Western Cape.

Eastern Cape

In the eastern half, The region will be fine and hot but warm along the coast, turning cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers. Coastal winds will be light south-westerly, becoming easterly in the afternoon.

In the west, The morning will be cloudy with isolated showers, then fine and hot, but cool along the coast. Coastal winds will be light to moderate south-westerly.

Free State

The Free State will be fine in the extreme south initially, then turning partly cloudy and hot to very hot. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected in the central and eastern parts, becoming scattered in the extreme northeast.

Gauteng

Gauteng is set to experience partly cloudy skies and hot temperatures, with scattered thundershowers expected. However, some southern areas might be just warm. The UVB sunburn index is projected to be very high.

KwaZulu-Natal

The weather will be partly cloudy and hot, becoming very hot in the north. Isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers are expected. Coastal winds will shift from moderate north-easterly to moderate to fresh south-westerly from mid-morning. The UVB sunburn index is extreme.

Limpopo

Limpopo will experience partly cloudy weather, with hot to very hot temperatures, escalating to extremely hot in western bushveld and Lowveld areas. Isolated afternoon thundershowers are predicted in the south.

Mpumalanga

Eastern Mpumalanga will see cloudy conditions with morning drizzle and fog patches along the escarpment. The region is expected to be partly cloudy and warm to hot, escalating to very hot in the Lowveld. Isolated showers and thundershowers are also forecasted.

North West

The province will have partly cloudy skies and hot to very hot temperatures, with scattered showers and thundershowers. However, these are expected to be isolated in the south-west.

Northern Cape

The Northern Cape will start fine in central and southern parts, then become partly cloudy, windy, and very hot to extremely hot. Isolated showers and thundershowers are expected in the northeast, with evening showers in the southwest. It will be cool to warm in the Namakwa District. Coastal areas will experience fresh to strong southerly to south-easterly winds.

Western Cape

The Western Cape will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated afternoon to evening showers and thundershowers along the south-coast and over the Central Karoo. Hot and windy conditions are expected in the Karoo. Light rain might fall along the south-west coast from late morning. Coastal winds will be fresh to strong southerly to south-westerly, turning south-easterly towards Lambert’s Bay by the end of the day. The UVB sunburn index is very high.
