Weather warnings and advisories to take note of on Tuesday, 17 October 2023.

South Africa is bracing for potentially disruptive weather on Tuesday, with warnings for severe flooding and thunderstorms in key districts.

Impact-based warnings

The most critical is an Orange Level 6 warning for disruptive rain in King Cetshwayo and uMkhanyakude Districts of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). This alert indicates not only the risk of flooding of roads and settlements but also a potential danger to life due to fast-flowing streams, damage to property, and major disruptions to traffic.

A Yellow Level 2 warning has also been flagged for several districts, including Ugu District, Durban Metro, and parts of Umgungundlovu and iLembe Districts.

These areas could see localised flooding affecting informal settlements, roads, and low-lying regions, along with disruptions to municipal services.

Another Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms is expected to impact the western and central interior of Limpopo, but not the extreme southwestern parts.

The thunderstorms may bring damaging winds, small hail, and heavy downpours that can damage property and vegetation.
