The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued the following weather warnings and advisories for Thursday, 22 August 2024:

  • Yellow Level 4 Warning:
    • Damaging wind and waves leading to disruption to small harbours/ports and risk to medium vessels between Plettenberg Bay and East London.
  • Yellow Level 2 Warning:
    • Coastal winds causing difficulty in navigation at sea between Cape Point and Plettenberg Bay.
    • Damaging wind and waves resulting in localized disruption to small harbours/ports and difficulty in navigation for small vessels between East London and Kosi Bay.
  • Fire Danger Warnings:
    • Extremely high fire danger conditions expected in the northern parts of Limpopo.
  • Advisories:
    • Very cold conditions expected in places over the interior of the Eastern Cape.

  1. Gauteng:
    • Fine and warm.
    • UVB sunburn index: Very High.
  2. Mpumalanga:
    • Partly cloudy in the Lowveld, otherwise fine and cool to warm.
  3. Limpopo:
    • Fine and warm, but hot in places in the Western Bushveld, becoming cloudy in the Lowveld in the afternoon.
  4. North-West Province:
    • Fine and warm.
  5. Free State:
    • Fine and cool to warm.
  6. Northern Cape:
    • Morning fog in the southern parts, otherwise fine and cool to warm, but hot in the extreme northwestern parts.
    • Coastal winds: Fresh to strong southerly to southeasterly at first, otherwise light to moderate.
  7. Western Cape:
    • Partly cloudy along the south coast and adjacent interior with isolated showers and rain in the extreme southeastern parts in the morning, as well as morning fog over the eastern parts. Fine and cool to warm, but cold in places along the south coast and eastern parts.
    • Coastal winds: Fresh to strong easterly to southeasterly, reaching gale force along the southwest coast in the morning, spreading to the south coast from the afternoon.
    • UVB sunburn index: Moderate.
  8. Western Half of the Eastern Cape:
    • Fine in the north, otherwise partly cloudy and cold, with isolated showers and rain in places south of Somerset East, but scattered along the coast.
    • Coastal winds: Strong southwesterly at first, becoming fresh south-easterly, but fresh to strong northeasterly in the evening.
  9. Eastern Half of the Eastern Cape:
    • Fine in places in the north, otherwise partly cloudy and cold, with isolated showers and rain south of the escarpment.
    • Coastal winds: Strong southwesterly, becoming moderate to fresh in the afternoon.
  10. KwaZulu-Natal:
    • Morning fog patches over the western parts, otherwise cloudy and cold to cool with isolated showers and rain along the coast and adjacent interior.
    • Coastal winds: Gale force southerly to southwesterly, becoming strong from the late morning, but moderate to fresh from the south by the evening.
    • UVB sunburn index: Very High.
