The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued the following weather warnings and advisories for Saturday, 28 September 2024:

  • Yellow Level 2 Warning for Coastal Winds:
    • Expected difficulty in navigation at sea between Cape Columbine and Cape Agulhas.
  • Yellow Level 2 Warning for Interior Winds:
    • Localised damage to settlements and infrastructure, as well as increased risk of runaway fires, are expected over:
      • Central and northern interior of the Eastern Cape
      • South-eastern parts of the Northern Cape
      • Parts of North West and Gauteng
      • Eastern parts of the Free State
      • South-western parts of Mpumalanga
  • Fire Danger Warnings:
    • Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over:
      • North-eastern parts of the Western Cape
      • Northern interior of the Eastern Cape
      • Extreme south-eastern parts of the Northern Cape
      • Northern parts of the Free State
      • Parts of North West, Gauteng, extreme south-western parts of Mpumalanga, and the western and southern parts of Limpopo.

Cape Town

On Saturday, Cape Town will have mostly cloudy conditions with temperatures ranging from a low of 12°C to a high of 14°C. Light showers are expected in the afternoon with a 30% chance of precipitation, particularly around 4:00 pm, accompanied by winds from the west-southwest at about 24 km/h. The weather will remain cool and slightly rainy later in the day, so an umbrella might be necessary for outdoor plans.

Durban

Durban is expected to be overcast with a high of 25°C and a low of 17°C. The morning will start off partly cloudy and mild at 19°C, becoming overcast and mild by the afternoon with temperatures around 24°C. Winds will be from the northeast at 32 km/h, creating a fresh breeze​.

Johannesburg

Johannesburg will experience warm conditions with a high of 30°C and a low of 16°C. There is a 30% chance of rain, especially during the night, and the wind will be blowing from the west-northwest at 34 km/h, creating a fresh breeze. The morning will start partly cloudy at 22°C, with overcast and warm weather expected in the afternoon.

  • Gauteng: Fine, windy, and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy with isolated evening thundershowers, scattered in the south.
  • Mpumalanga: Partly cloudy along the escarpment and in the Lowveld in the morning, otherwise fine and warm to hot, becoming partly cloudy with isolated thundershowers over the Highveld in the evening. It will be windy in the south-western parts.

  • North West Province: Cloudy in the west, otherwise partly cloudy, windy, and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers from the afternoon, scattered in the extreme south-east.
  • Free State: Partly cloudy, windy, and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, isolated in the extreme north-west.
  • Northern Cape: Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers, scattered over the northern and eastern parts. It will be windy over the southern and western interiors. The wind along the coast will be light south-easterly, becoming light to moderate westerly to north-westerly from the afternoon.
  • Western Cape: Cloudy in the west and north-east, otherwise partly cloudy, windy, and cool to cold with isolated to scattered showers and rain mainly towards the evening, but widespread over the south-western parts. It will be warm in the Little Karoo. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-westerly to westerly but strong along the south-west coast. It will become fresh to strong south-westerly from late afternoon.
  • Western Half of the Eastern Cape: Cloudy, windy, and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, isolated in the extreme west. It will be cool along the coast and adjacent interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh south-westerly.
  • Eastern Half of the Eastern Cape: Cloudy, windy, and warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, isolated along the coast and adjacent interior. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, becoming south-westerly in the afternoon.
  • KwaZulu-Natal: Partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the west and south. The wind along the coast will be moderate to fresh north-easterly, becoming strong in the afternoon.
