The southern parts of Free State have received a Yellow Level 2 Warning for severe thunderstorms that could result in strong damaging winds, localised damage to property, and short-term disruptions to essential services.
Another Yellow Level 2 Warning has been issued for disruptive rain in the Overberg District, which may lead to localised mudslides, rockfalls, and damage to farm dam walls.
The disruptive rain is expected from Friday evening into Saturday, 7 October 2023.
Fire danger warnings
Extremely high fire danger conditions are forecasted for eastern parts of the Northern Cape, the Free State, North-West, southwestern Limpopo, parts of Gauteng, and western Kwazulu-Natal.
Advisories: Heatwaves expected to hover over these regions
A heatwave is expected to persist over North-West, most of Free State (except the south), Gauteng, western and southern parts of Limpopo, and western parts of Mpumalanga until Sunday, 8 October 2023.

Eastern Cape
Both the western and eastern halves of the province are expected to be cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers. Widespread rain is forecasted along the coast of the western half.
Free State
Weather will be fine and hot, becoming partly cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers in most parts, except the north. The south is expected to have scattered showers.
Gauteng
The province is expected to be fine and hot, becoming very hot in places in the north. The UVB sunburn index is rated as extreme.
KwaZulu-Natal
The province is expected to be partly cloudy and warm. Scattered afternoon showers and thundershowers are anticipated over the western parts, while isolated showers are expected in the northeast.
Limpopo
Weather is expected to be fine, ranging from hot to very hot temperatures.
Mpumalanga
Conditions are forecasted to be fine and warm to hot, but very hot in the Lowveld region.
North West
The province will experience fine and hot conditions.
Northern Cape
Morning fog is expected along the coast, where it will initially be cloudy. The interior is predicted to be partly cloudy and warm but can get hot to very hot. Isolated showers and thundershowers are forecasted, with more occurrences in the southeast.
Western Cape
The province will see morning fog along the west coast, with partly cloudy conditions expected thereafter. Widespread showers are forecasted along the south coast and adjacent interior. Isolated thundershowers are expected in the eastern interior.
