South African rap icon Riky Rick was laid to rest in a privately held funeral, on Tuesday.

South Africa pays last tribute to Riky Rick

The 34-year-old took his own life, on Wednesday 23 February 2022, after a lifelong battle with depression. His untimely passing ruptured social media, marking the end of an era where Rikhado Makhado led the new school of South African Hip-Hop as a martyr.

While his funeral was closed off to the public, his memorial service, which is scheduled to take place on Friday 4 March 2022, will be open to his fans.

“The Makhado family are deeply moved by the global outpouring of support over the past three days,” the rapper’s family noted in a statement released last week.

The event will be streamed live and his peers and close friends are expected to be in attendance, to pay tribute to the Boss Zonke star.
