R Kelly found guilty on multiple charges: Here’s what we know

As per TMZ, Prosecutors found Kelly guilty of three counts of child pornography and three counts of child enticement. However, the singer was exonerated of seven other charges, including obstruction of justice and conspiracy to receive child pornography.

Chicago jurors convicted the singer after 11 hours of deliberation on Tuesday afternoon.

During the five-week trial, several women took the stand. Jurors were told that Kelly sexually abused them when they were minors. The jury also saw a video of Kelly molesting his goddaughter. She testified that the abuse began in the 1990s when she was a teenager.

Kelly was accused of recording himself having sex with underage girls. Additionally, he was accused of rigging his 2008 child porn trial.

Prosecutors charged Derrell McDavid with conspiring to obstruct justice by rigging the 2008 trial and two counts of receiving child porn.

Another co-defendant, Kelly’s associate Milton Brown, faced charges of conspiring to receive child porn.

Prosecutors have found both of them not guilty on all counts, according to IOL.

Kelly faced 13 charges. A conviction of just one count of child pornography carries a 10-year mandatory minimum sentence. Federal inmates must serve at least 85% of their sentences.

Attorneys accused the three men of trying to bribe and threaten witnesses in the 2008 Illinois case. Though, prosecutors declared that Kelly was not guilty on 14 counts of child pornography.

In June, New York federal prosecutors sentenced Kelly to 30 years. Kelly was found guilty on charges of racketeering and prostitution. That trial amplified accusations that had dogged the singer or two decades. The new conviction could add years to Kelly’s existing 30-year sentence.

Judges are yet to sentence the singer. Two further trials are also pending against the singer, one in Minnesota and another in a state court in Chicago.
