Motorists in South Africa saw a modest increase in petrol prices from Wednesday, 1 October 2025.
Latest petrol price adjustments announced for October 2025
According to the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, the retail price of petrol 95 octane will increase by 8 cents per litre, while petrol 93 octane will rise by 1 cent per litre.
The latest price hike follows increased international product prices for petrol, diesel, and illuminating paraffin during the review period (29 August to 25 September 2025).
Compounding the impact of global oil market pressures, the retail margin for all grades of petrol has also increased by 6.1 cents per litre to accommodate wage adjustments for fuel station workers.
Despite a slightly stronger rand during the review period, appreciating from R17.7339 to R17.4855 against the US dollar, local prices were still affected by upward pressure from international fuel prices.
This led to a higher contribution to the Basic Fuel Price (BFP) for petrol by 14.265 cents per litre.
The slate levy remains unchanged at 0 cents per litre, and the Road Accident Fund (RAF) Levy continues at 218 cents per litre. The fuel levy remains at 415 cents per litre for petrol.
The official petrol prices from 1 October 2025 are:

- Petrol 93: R21.48 per litre
