Police Minister Senzo Mchunu’s Chief of Staff, Cedrick Nkabinde, is scheduled to testify today before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee probing allegations of political interference, corruption, and criminal infiltration in South Africa’s justice system.

Proceedings are expected to begin at 09:00 SAST.

According to Parliament’s official notice, Nkabinde has been called to account after KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi described him as “clueless” during earlier testimony, accusing him of interfering in policing matters without understanding operational structures.

Nkabinde’s name has also come up at the Madlanga Commission, where witnesses have referred to interactions involving senior police officials and possible influence from political offices.

Nkabinde has rejected suggestions of wrongdoing and has stated that he intends to “clear his name” before Parliament.

The Ad Hoc Committee, established in October 2025, has already heard evidence from several high-ranking officials, including National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola, Deputy National Commissioner General Shadrack Sibiya, former Police Minister Bheki Cele, and National Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Shamila Batohi.

The inquiry is focused on allegations that key policing and justice structures were compromised by political and criminal networks, with multiple witnesses identifying systemic weaknesses that may have allowed interference in investigations.

Today’s session is expected to examine Nkabinde’s role within the Ministry of Police, his interactions with provincial leadership in KwaZulu-Natal, and any involvement he may have had in cases under scrutiny.

The hearing will take place in Committee Room M46 at the Marks Building in Parliament and is open to the public through official live streams.
