A foster father in the Free State has been sentenced for inappropriate conduct involving his teenage foster daughter.
Free State foster father sentenced for sexually abusing daughter
The situation first came to light at the Parys police station, where the teen and her foster mother filed a report detailing the sexual assault by the foster father that began in January 2023.
The foster father’s inappropriate actions commenced when the foster mother was not present in the home. Despite the teen’s objections, he persisted, using intimidation to silence her.
In February 2023, the teenager bravely disclosed the ongoing issue to her foster mother, leading to immediate action. They went to the Tumahole police station, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
The Tumahole Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Unit, led by Sergeant Bongani Zwai and prosecutor Mr Seviwe Mdazuka, played a crucial role in ensuring a thorough investigation and a fair trial.
After careful consideration of the case, the court sentenced the foster father to 14 years for his inappropriate conduct, emphasising the gravity of his actions and the need to protect minors.
