Eskom has extended the temporary suspension of loadshedding due to sustained improvements in generation fleet performance and the full recovery of emergency reserves.

The state-owned utility confirmed in a statement that the continuation of the loadshedding suspension is now set to resume until Tuesday, 24 October 2023, at 16:00.

This decision, Eskom explained, came in light of the continued improved performance of the generation fleet alongside fully recovered emergency reserves, which have contributed to a temporary relief from the scheduled power outages.

Starting from Tuesday, however, Stage 1 loadshedding will be implemented from 16:00 and will continue until 05:00 on Wednesday, 25 October 2023.

Following this, the loadshedding will again be suspended from 05:00 until 16:00, after which Stage 1 loadshedding will be reinstated from 16:00 until 05:00 on Thursday, 26 October 2023.

This pattern of loadshedding and its suspension is scheduled to be repeated daily unless otherwise notified by Eskom.

Currently, the breakdowns stand at 13 559MW, while the planned maintenance is being carried out on 4 765MW of generation capacity.

Despite these figures, the demand forecast for the evening peak is projected to be 25 054MW, indicating a significant demand that Eskom needs to meet to ensure a steady supply of electricity across the country.

“Eskom will communicate should any significant changes occur,” Eskom noted.

The temporary suspension of loadshedding provides a brief respite to the residents and businesses that have been grappling with the intermittent power supply.
