US President Donald Trump has reacted to Joe Biden’s recent prostate cancer diagnosis, releasing a statement on his Truth Social platform that expressed sympathy for the 82-year-old and his family.
What Donald Trump said about Joe Biden’s diagnosis
Trump’s message was notably reserved and compassionate, a departure from the usual tone of political rivalry. He wrote:
“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”
The message comes at a sensitive time, as Biden’s diagnosis has sparked concern over his health and what it might mean for his role as a senior figure in U.S. politics.
Former President Barack Obama also released a statement, saying:
“Michelle and I are thinking of the entire Biden family. Nobody has done more to find breakthrough treatments for cancer in all its forms than Joe, and I am certain he will fight this challenge with his trademark resolve and grace. We pray for a fast and full recovery.”
Joe Biden’s prostate cancer diagnosis: Here’s what we know
On Sunday, Biden’s personal office confirmed that he has been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer that has already spread to his bones. This condition is referred to as “metastatic prostate cancer.”
Doctors found a “prostate nodule,” which is an abnormal growth, after Biden started experiencing symptoms like difficulty urinating. Further testing revealed the cancer was at a Gleason score of 9, which is classified as Grade Group 5—the highest level, indicating a very aggressive cancer.
However, doctors also confirmed that the cancer is “hormone-sensitive.” This means it is likely to respond to hormone therapy, a common treatment that slows or stops the growth of cancer cells that rely on male hormones to grow.
At this time, Biden and his family are working with his doctors to choose the best treatment plan.
Because Biden is 82 years old, his age adds a caveat to the complexity to the diagnosis. Older patients may face more risks when undergoing treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, or surgery. However, if the cancer responds well to hormone treatment, it could still be managed effectively.
Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers in men, especially in older age. Many cases are treatable when detected early, but the advanced stage of Biden’s cancer means he will likely need ongoing care.
For now, Biden is not reported to be hospitalised and is said to be discussing his medical options while surrounded by his family. Further updates on his treatment plan are expected in the coming days.
