Benni McCarthy receives praises: Here’s what Bruno Fernandes had to say

McCarthy, who has a focus on coaching attacking plays and positioning, was recently added to Erik ten Hag’s backroom team. According to Fernandes, the former coach of AmaZulu has been entertaining on the practice field and in the locker room.

United had a disappointing start to the Premier League season after losing to Brighton in their season opener. Things only got worse as Brentford humiliated United 4-0 in the second round of the EPL.

However, United returned in spectacular fashion, defeating Liverpool 2-1 on Monday, 22 August 2022, at Old Trafford. Thanks to goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford

In an interview with SuperSport, Fernandes flashed a beaming smile when asked about McCarthy.

“He is a really funny person, he’s always positive, he has good energy in the dressing room and training ground… He was quality as a player and is quality as a manager because we do many drills from finishing, headers many stuff that he was really doing when he was playing and it can help us score some goals.

“Sometimes we joke, I tell him he was not ‘that good’ playing for FC Porto and he was dropping so many times and obviously our assistant coach Mitchell [van der Gaag] was playing in Portugal too and they know each other.

“They always joke around about when they played so that positive vibe and good energy can be helpful for us during the season,” he added.

McCarthy is reportedly popular with Cristiano Ronaldo and other club stars. Thus far, McCarthy has made an impression despite the fact that United had only scored once before the match against Liverpool.

Even though McCarthy hasn’t had much time to work with United’s playmakers, he will undoubtedly have the support of all South Africans who aren’t United supporters.
