MacG, once again, divided opinion on social media following an interview he had with US R&B singer Ari Lennox.
Watch: MacG startles Ari Lennox with ‘sexually-charged’ questions
The virtual chat between the South African podcaster and Ari was meant to be a special moment for the songstress’ fanbase. Ari has had a great relationship with South Africa, up until now.
However things quickly went south when MacG nonchalantly asked the songstress about her sex life. It was not the question itself that offended Ari and scores of others, but the manner in which it was framed.
Instead of teasing a steamy conversation by respectfully probing the singer about her love life, MacG went for the jugular and asked, “is someone f****** you good right now?”

Ari could not hide her shock.. While MacG cackled on, completely unaware of the discomfort he had caused, Ari could barely muster up a comprehensible sentence as she admitted later on in a tweet that she was absolutely caught off guard.
I’m just like… why was I alone on a call full of people? Why didn’t anyone intervene? And why wasn’t parts of the interview destroyed like the team promised? Why did it happen to begin with? I just feel slow and ambushed and blindsighted.

Another moment in the interview left a bitter taste in the mouths of Ari’s fans, one which, we believe, she was completely oblivious to. MacG lured the songstress into teaching her a Venda phrase.
Of course, Ari, an African American, was ecstatic about the idea and blindly repeated MacG’s words, which, when translated to English, meant:
“MacG, I want to f*** you.”
If you know you know 😂🏌♂️

The songstress took to social media to vent about the disrespect she felt and, naturally, fans of the polarising podcaster descended on her mentions, amplifying the vileness.
South Africa! Y’all got it!!! Heard you loud and clear. This won’t be a place I will ever visit. https://t.co/cnDShDQQRb

Here are some of the reactions from South Africans who weighed in on the MacG x Ari saga:
I can’t in good conscience tell Ari Lennox that she has the wrong impression about South Africans because she doesn’t.

This Ari Lennox situation shows the double standards , if someones lyrics are homophobic it’s ok for that person to be questioned and engaged as a homophob, but if lyrics are sexually explicit it’s not ok to engage them as a sexually explicit person … https://t.co/5UOojjpGTk
