The long-awaited first trailer for Tron: Ares has finally dropped, giving fans a first look at what to expect from the new movie.

Watch: First ‘Tron: Ares’ trailer

In the trailer, viewers are introduced to a striking new red version of the Grid — the digital world at the centre of the Tron series. The big surprise is that this time, the digital characters are not staying in the Grid.

Instead, the movie shows them crossing over into the real world, creating a tense and exciting twist.

This trailer does not follow the exact story from the last movie, Tron: Legacy, released in 2010.

Instead, Tron: Ares offers something new. While it keeps the same futuristic and glowing style that fans love, it tells a fresh story about the collision between humans and artificial intelligence from the digital universe.

Director Joachim Rønning, known for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, is behind the camera.

He brings a big, action-packed style to the film.

Even though the trailer doesn’t reveal much about the full plot, it promises big action scenes and dramatic moments.

’Tron: Ares’ cast and plot

The movie follows a digital character named Ares, played by Jared Leto.

Ares is a highly intelligent program created inside the Grid who is sent into the real world on a risky mission. This is the first time in the series that a character from the Grid enters the real world, making the storyline very different from past movies.

Other actors in the cast include Greta Lee, Evan Peters, Hasan Minhaj, Jodie Turner-Smith, Cameron Monaghan, Gillian Anderson, and Sarah Desjardins.

Jeff Bridges returns as Kevin Flynn, a key character from the earlier Tron films.

The movie is not a direct follow-up to Tron: Legacy, but it keeps the Tron universe alive by telling a new story with new and returning characters. It focuses on how humans react when digital creations come into our world.

’Tron: Ares’ release date

Tron: Ares is set to release on 10 October 2025, in the United States. It will also be available in IMAX, which means audiences can expect big visuals and sound.

The film’s production started in January 2024 in Vancouver and wrapped up in May the same year. After several delays, including Hollywood strikes, it is now officially on track for its October release.

The music for the film is composed by the band Nine Inch Nails. This gives the film a darker and more intense feel compared to the electronic music of Tron: Legacy by Daft Punk.
