What is the movie about?
In F1, Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a fictional driver from the 1990s who was forced to retire after a life-threatening crash. Years later, he returns to the racing world to help a new driver, Joshua Pearce, while trying to save their struggling team, APX GP, from financial ruin.
The film was directed by Joseph Kosinski, best known for Top Gun: Maverick. To make it authentic, scenes were filmed at real Formula 1 racetracks, and the movie even features appearances from actual F1 drivers, including Nyck de Vries and Jack Doohan.
When we say a movie “grossed” $595 million, it means that is the total amount of money collected from ticket sales worldwide. For comparison, Brad Pitt’s previous biggest movie, World War Z (2013), made $540 million. F1 has now surpassed that figure, breaking Pitt’s personal record.
It has also beaten the $594 million earned by the James Bond movie Casino Royale (2006), making it one of the top 80 action movies of all time.
Besides being a thrilling sports drama, F1 is also a groundbreaking project because it was made in close collaboration with Formula 1 itself. The producers wanted to make it feel as realistic as possible, showing the pressure and speed of professional racing.
It is also backed by Lewis Hamilton’s production company, Dawn Apollo Films, which helped ensure the racing scenes and storylines reflected real experiences in motorsport.
Fans who missed it in cinemas can now watch F1 movie online on Apple TV, YouTube Movies, Amazon Prime Video, and Google Play, either by renting or buying it.
