Limpopo musician Shebeshxt, real name Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, remains behind bars after confusion over his bail status triggered disorder at the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Crowds gathered outside the courtroom following false reports claiming he had been released on R5,000 bail, despite an active case that includes allegations he violated previous bail conditions.
According to Daily Sun, the case was postponed to Tuesday, 25 November 2025, after the courtroom became overwhelmed by supporters who attempted to gain access to the proceedings.
The scene outside the courthouse grew tense as fans pushed toward the entrance, prompting police and security officers to intervene.
Additional officers were deployed to restore order as clashes briefly erupted near the doorway.
Inside, the presiding magistrate postponed the matter to allow the defence additional time to prepare for a formal bail application.
Shebeshxt’s current legal situation stems from an alleged shooting in Ladanna on 19 October 2025, in which a 34-year-old man was injured and taken to hospital.
The case has since been consolidated with two other attempted murder matters previously enrolled in the Lebowakgomo Regional Court.
The musician is also facing charges of malicious damage to property and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Prosecutors confirmed in court that the combined docket has been upgraded from Schedule 5 to Schedule 6, a category reserved for more serious offences and which places a higher threshold on bail eligibility.
This follows the musician’s previous run-ins with the law, including separate attempted murder accusations and violent confrontations dating back several years.
Shebeshxt’s recent arrest was carried out in Bendor, outside Polokwane, during an intelligence-led operation involving the Provincial Investigation Unit.
Vehicles linked to him were seized for forensic analysis, and investigators indicated that further assessments related to the October shooting were underway.
The confusion surrounding his bail arose shortly after his court appearance, when incorrect reports circulated online alleging that he had been granted R5,000 bail.
The information conflicted with the position presented in court, where the state confirmed that no bail had been approved and that the musician remained in custody pending the next hearing.
Shebeshxt is expected to remain in custody until his next scheduled appearance on 25 November, when the court is set to determine whether his legal team will proceed with a formal bail application.
