A second victim involved in the Kharishma accident in Polokwane has died, the Limpopo Artist Movement (LAM) confirmed on Sunday.
The passenger, a local artist and University of Limpopo student, died at Pietersburg Hospital on Saturday night after spending 16 days in critical care.
According to Daily Sun, the young man was among the passengers travelling with Limpopo musician Kharishma, real name Melita Mogale, when the vehicle crashed on 31 October between Grobler and Magazyn streets in Polokwane.
Her driver, 24-year-old Vincent Maphopha, died at the scene and was buried on 9 November in Groblersdal. Maphopha was also a musician and a final-year University of Limpopo student expected to graduate in 2026.
LAM spokesperson Mashabela told Daily Sun that Limpopo Health MEC Dieketseng Mashego had confirmed the second death and that the organisation was in contact with the victim’s family.
Kharishma, who is 21, survived the impact but sustained severe injuries. She has been hospitalised since the crash.
Her brother, Nthekgeng Mogale, told News24 that while the first days after the crash were critical, her condition has stabilised and she is now in the recovery phase.
He said the family would release limited updates at the musician’s request for privacy.
“People need to know that danger to life has been averted,” he said, noting that although she is recovering, she will not be discharged soon and will require physiotherapy.
Mogale said the family has been deeply affected but is encouraged by her progress.
He thanked fans, fellow artists and community leaders for their support. He added that while the accident has intensified concerns about the risks artists face when travelling late at night, the family remains focused on ensuring she receives the necessary medical care.
LAM said it continues to monitor the situation and extended condolences to the families of both victims.
