The management of 12 on Hillel Villa and Spa has released a formal statement distancing itself from businessman Thami Ndlala and media personality Lerato Kganyago after the property was referenced during testimony before the Madlanga Commission.

The statement follows reports that Witness A, a police detective testifying at the commission, told the inquiry he received an invitation to a party at the hotel allegedly sent by Ndlala through a colleague.

The event reportedly included several senior police officials. Witness A said he was surprised to find officers under investigation in attendance, describing the gathering as an attempt to influence investigators handling cartel-linked cases.

According to the hotel’s management, however, Ndlala has no connection to the establishment.

“Mr Vusi Ndlala is neither involved in the management, operation, or administration of the hotel in any capacity,” the statement read.

“The hotel has no record of him serving as a director, manager, employee, agent, or representative of the property.”

The management further clarified that Kganyago, who is married to Ndlala, is not associated with the hotel’s business operations.

“Media commentary has directed criticism toward Mrs Lerato Kganyago despite her having no operational, managerial, or ownership involvement in the hotel. She should not be drawn into or implicated in these matters without factual basis,” the statement added.

The hotel said it takes seriously any claims that its premises may have been used for unlawful or improper purposes but emphasised that its facilities are available to guests for legitimate use.

“We are not privy to the content of guest conversations or the purposes for which guests hire or use our facilities,” management said.

“Such usage does not imply the hotel’s knowledge of, or consent to, illicit activities.”

In response to suggestions that the event was held at the venue on the date mentioned during the hearings, the hotel said its internal booking records and event logs confirm no such party took place.

“No event or party of that nature occurred within the timeframe referenced in the reports,” it stated.

The Madlanga Commission, chaired by Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, continues to hear testimony related to alleged interference, corruption, and organised criminal activity within South Africa’s policing structures.

Witness A, who is testifying under protection, has linked several incidents to individuals allegedly connected to criminal cartels.

The statement from 12 on Hillel Villa and Spa concluded by affirming the establishment’s commitment to transparency and cooperation with legal processes.

“The hotel remains committed to lawful conduct, high standards of hospitality, and respect for the law,” management said.

“We will continue to cooperate with legitimate investigative processes and safeguard the integrity of our operations.”

The property, located in Northcliff, Johannesburg, markets itself as a boutique hotel and wellness retreat offering accommodation, spa treatments, and event hosting.
