South African artist Makhadzi is facing heavy criticism from fans after her much-anticipated One Woman Show was plagued by a series of logistical failures and mishaps.
Fans voice frustration over Makhadzi’s ‘One Woman Show’
The event, which came shortly after Chris Brown’s record-breaking two-show stint in Johannesburg, drew attention not only for its delays and organisational issues but also for its attempts to emulate the American artist’s performance stunts.
Attendees who paid premium prices for the show expressed outrage on social media over the poor planning.
One fan who had purchased a Marquee ticket for R16,000 lamented that no marquee was present, leaving attendees in a stadium suite without basic amenities like glasses or ice buckets for their alcohol.
Another attendee described the chaos outside the venue, where fans were still struggling to access the stadium hours after the gates were scheduled to open.
“Makhadzi, please open the gate for us. You said gates open at 12:00; it’s 17:00 already,” the fan tweeted.
Videos from the event also captured moments of disorganisation, including an incident where family members of the artist reportedly barred attendees from accessing food they had paid for.
“It’s Makhadzi’s family telling us we can’t eat because she paid for the food that we also paid for. It’s 03:54 am,” a frustrated attendee wrote.
Despite these issues, some fans remained supportive of Makhadzi but urged her to reassess her management team.
“Glad the Queen showed up and performed! However, Ausi, I still say get yourself a top-notch team, fire anyone who makes you look unprofessional, and treat yourself as a business,” a fan advised.
Critics highlighted the irony of Makhadzi’s earlier comments about South Africans favouring international acts over local ones.
Makhadzi’s “One Woman Show” was intended to celebrate her as a leading South African artist.
However, despite her eventual performance, which attracted the attendance of thousands of fans, including Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba, the negative feedback surrounding the event has raised concerns about her team’s ability to deliver professional productions.
As social media continues to buzz with reactions, the star has yet to address disgruntled fans.
