The popular reality show Big Brother Mzansi Season 6 will officially return next year, with entries now open for South Africans who want to become housemates.

The show, aired on Mzansi Magic (Channel 161 DStv), is inviting bold and fun-loving contestants to audition for their chance at fame and fortune.

Entries opened on Thursday, 2 October 2025, and anyone wishing to take part must submit a two-minute audition tape through the official website.

Applicants must be at least 21 years old by 1 January 2026 and either a citizen or legal resident of South Africa.

According to Mzansi Magic, housemates must be creative, original, and open-minded. They must also be tolerant of people with different views and lifestyles, since the show brings together diverse personalities under one roof.

“Big Brother Mzansi continues to be one of South Africa’s most culturally resonant reality shows,” said Shirley Adonisi, Channel Director for Local Entertainment Channels.

She added that the show provides an “unfiltered lens into the lives of everyday South Africans” and sparks national conversations about identity, relationships, and youth culture.

How auditions will work

Auditions will take place in phases. Contestants will first go through video call sessions, and if successful, they will be invited to Johannesburg for face-to-face interviews.

There is no registration fee to audition. However, participants must cover their own travel expenses to and from audition venues.

Entries are for individuals only, which means partners or groups cannot apply.

In addition, former Big Brother Mzansi or Big Brother Africa housemates are not allowed to audition. The producers are looking for fresh faces to keep the show exciting.

Prize money

The winner of Big Brother Mzansi Season 6 will walk away with no less than R1 million.

However, the prize could climb as high as R2 million, depending on sponsorships and promotions.

Like all competition winnings in South Africa, the prize will be subject to taxation. Contestants will not be paid for their participation during the season; only the ultimate winner claims the jackpot.

Rules and behaviour

The Big Brother house is governed by strict rules. Violence of any form is completely banned, and anyone who breaks this rule will be immediately disqualified.

Housemates will also be expected to abide by house rules at all times.

Season 6 will follow in the footsteps of past winners such as Sweet Guluva (Season 5), Mjuneiro “McJunior” (Season 4), and Mpho Wa Badimo (Season 3). The premiere date has not yet been officially announced, but fans can expect the season to kick off in early 2026.
