Eskom published the weekend loadshedding schedule starting on Friday, which forecasts heightened outages.

Weekend loadshedding schedule starting Friday, 2 February 2024
On Wednesday, the power utility updated the week’s schedule, confirming Stage 3 loadshedding will remain in place until further notice.
“Eskom will closely monitor the power system and communicate should any significant changes occur,” the utility noted.
Therefore, barring any unexpected changes necessitated by unplanned breakdowns at Megawatt Park’s ailing generation fleet, loadshedding should be sustained at Stage 3 this weekend.

Update on breakdowns and available capacity
The last state of the power system update was on Sunday, 28 January 2024. At the time, Eskom reported more than 16 473MW of generation capacity lost to breakdowns, with an additional 7 521MW offline due to several units placed out of commission for planned maintenance.
