Eskom will kick off the new week with no loadshedding for the first time in ages, bringing a semblance of relief to businesses and households, albeit it will most likely be shortlived.

UPDATE: On Friday, 24 March 2023, Eskom published the weekend schedule, noting that loadshedding will remain on Stage 2 until early morning on Saturday, and suspended on Sunday, 26 March 2023.

As of Friday, 24 March 2022, breakdowns amounted to:

  • 14 489MW (unplanned)  down 1 156MW from Sunday, 19 March 2023
  • 6 190MW (planned maintenance) – up 1 248MW from Sunday, 19 March 2023

UPDATE: On Tuesday, 21 March 2023, Eskom confirmed that loadshedding will remain suspended until Wednesday morning, “due to slight improvement in generation capacity and lower demand.”

The power utility added that outages will return at Stage 2 from 05:00 on Wednesday, 22 March 2023, and thereafter, loadshedding will be escalated to Stage 3 until Thursday morning.

Here’s the loadshedding schedule for week of Monday, 20 March 202

The power utility noted in a statement released on Sunday that this week’s forecast promises lower stages of loadshedding due to improvements in generation capacity.

From Sunday afternoon until 05:00 on Monday, 20 March 2023, rotational outages were suspended. The national electricity supplier explained that power cuts will return from Monday morning until 16:00 at Stage 1, and rise to Stage 2 until the next morning peak.

South Africans will likely be offered further relief with no loadshedding during Tuesday’s morning peak period, which runs from 05:00 until 16:00.

The grid could be sustained at Stage 2 from 16:00 on Tuesday, 21 March 2023 until 16:00 the next day, but Eskom warned that the schedule is subject to change with more updates expected.

As of Sunday, 19 March 2022, breakdowns amounted to:
