The national electricity supplier confirmed in a statement that escalated outages would rise to Stage 4 from 16:00 on Sunday until the same time on Monday, 13 March 2023.
Thereafter, rotational blackouts will be increased to Stage 5 until 05:00 on Tuesday, 14 March 2023. While more updates are expected, Eskom confirmed loadshedding will switch between Stage 4 during the day (05:00 – 16:00) and Stage 5 on evening peak periods (16:00 – 05:00) until further notice.
Despite a generating unit returning to service at Arnot Power Station, further losses that crippled the grid were reported at Kriel, Medupi and Tutuka power stations in the past 24 hours.
“The return to service of a generating unit each at Duvha, Medupi, Tutuka and two units at Hendrina power stations are delayed,” Eskom revealed.
Perhaps, if repair works to damaged towers at Cahora Bassa, Mozambique, are completed early this coming week, then loadshedding could be reduced.
